Family atmosphere and very comfortable
It's easy to say that it's better to be close and right in the middle of activity. But in a relatively small town that is Oberstdorf that's not necessary because just about everything is accessible on foot or a quick shuttle. The Carola is a short walk from the town's train station. There aren't many major hotels and that's not really how things work in this part of Bavaria, with guest houses providing the lion's share of accommodations. The Carola operates like a family home and you get your own private room that comes with its own complete bathroom (with toilet and shower). There's a common room in the basement for breakfast that comes complete with bread, meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, muesli, milk, juice, coffee: ample fuel that'll stretch beyond lunch. I visited Oberstdorf over the late-winter, and I'm dying to find out what this area would be like in the middle of summer. To that end, I would love very much to come back and stay at the Carola again.
